In the eyes of Islam there is no distinction between the rich and the poor…………

so said Umar ibn Al-Khattab, Ameer al-Mu’mineen [radiAllaahu anhu]

Once during his caliphate, a Syrian prince, a convert to Islam, maltreated a humble Muslim.

Why…???…

Just because a simple Muslim had by chance trampled upon the magnificent toga of the prince.

The poor man complained to the Hazrat Umar [radiAllaahu anhu] who judged the prince to be guilty and commanded that he be publicly flogged.

The prince was astounded and could not see justice when it was meted out to the poor to the detriment of the rich and asked,

‘Is a plebian the equal of an aristocrat?’

‘In the eyes of Islam,’ rejoined the Caliph, ‘there is no distinction between the rich and the poor.’

Later that night, the prince renounced the new religion and went back to his people and his old faith
